Yamaha FZ-07 2015-2017 Engine Oil Capacity best oil Specs

Maintaining the correct engine oil level and replacing the oil filter at regular intervals are essential for the optimal performance and longevity of your Yamaha MT-07 (2017). This guide provides step-by-step instructions for checking the oil level, changing the oil, and replacing the oil filter, ensuring your motorcycle runs smoothly and efficiently.

Checking the Engine Oil Level

  1. Preparation
Place your FZ-07 on a level surface and hold it upright. Ensure the motorcycle is balanced, as any tilt can result in an inaccurate reading.

  2. Warming Up the Engine
Start the engine and let it warm up for a few minutes before turning it off.

  3. Checking the Oil Level
Wait for a few minutes to allow the oil to settle. Then, check the oil level through the inspection window located on the bottom-left side of the crankcase. The oil level should be between the minimum and maximum marks.

  4. Adjusting the Oil Level
If the oil level is below the minimum mark, add the recommended oil type until it reaches the correct level. Always check the O-ring for any signs of damage, and replace it if necessary.

Changing the Engine Oil and Oil Filter

Without Oil Filter Replacement:

  1. Preparation
Place the motorcycle on a level surface and warm up the engine for a few minutes. Turn off the engine.

  2. Draining the Oil
Place an oil pan under the engine to collect the used oil. Remove the engine oil filler cap, oil drain bolt, and its gasket to allow the oil to drain from the crankcase.

  3. Reinstalling the Drain Bolt
After the oil has drained, install the engine oil drain bolt with a new gasket, and tighten it to the specified torque (43 N·m / 31 lb·ft).

  4. Refilling with Engine Oil
Refill the engine with the recommended oil type and amount (2.30 L for oil changes without filter removal). Wipe off any spilled oil after the engine and exhaust system have cooled.

With Oil Filter Replacement:

  1. Removing the Oil Filter
After following the steps above, remove the oil filter using a Yamaha-approved oil filter wrench.

  2. Installing the New Filter
Apply a thin coat of clean engine oil to the O-ring of the new filter and ensure it's seated correctly. Install the filter and tighten it to the specified torque (17 N·m / 12 lb·ft).

  3. Final Steps
Install the engine oil drain bolt with its new gasket, tighten it to the specified torque, and refill the engine with the recommended oil (2.60 L for oil changes with filter removal).

Important Tips:

  • Clutch Slippage Prevention: Use only the recommended engine oil (YAMALUBE, SAE 10W-40 or similar). Avoid mixing chemical additives or using oils with diesel specifications of "CD" or higher, or oils labeled "ENERGY CONSERVING II."
  • Oil Pressure Warning Light: If the oil pressure warning light flickers or stays on despite correct oil levels, stop the engine immediately and contact a Yamaha dealer.

Recommended Engine Oil:

  • Brand: YAMALUBE
  • Viscosity Grades: 10W-40, 10W-50, 15W-40, 20W-40, 20W-50
  • Grade: API service SG type or higher, JASO standard MA
  • Oil Quantities:
    • Oil change: 2.30 L
    • Oil change with filter replacement: 2.60 L

Regular engine oil and filter maintenance is crucial for ensuring your Yamaha MT-07 2017 continues to perform at its best. Follow this guide to keep your motorcycle in optimal condition. Always consult a Yamaha dealer for additional assistance.
