Suzuki Avenis 125 Engine Oil Guide: Selection, Maintenance, and Replacement

This is the official manual engine oil guide for the 2023 Suzuki Avenis 125. This motorcycle uses a 125 cc engine with a dry clutch automatic transmission. This motorcycle is a scooter type. This motorcycle is marketed globally including Australia, Europe and several Asian countries such as Indonesia and the Philippines. Selecting the Engine Oil

Suzuki recommends using SUZUKI Genuine Oil or an equivalent engine oil. The following are the recommended Suzuki oils:

• ECSTAR R5000 MB SCOOTER 10W-40 MB
• ECSTAR R9000 10W-40 MA
• ECSTAR R7000 10W-40 MA
• ECSTAR R5000 10W-40 MA

If genuine Suzuki oil is unavailable, use an equivalent oil that meets the following standards:

• SAE Viscosity: 10W-40
• API (American Petroleum Institute) Classification: SG, SH, SJ, SL, SM, or SN
• JASO (Japanese Automobile Standards Organization) Classification: MB

Important Notes:

• Mixing Oils: Avoid mixing oils of different makes or grades, as it can compromise the oil’s quality and lead to engine damage.
• Energy Conserving Oils: Suzuki does not recommend using “Energy Conserving” or “Resource Conserving” oils, as they can negatively impact engine life and clutch performance, except in models with automatic transmissions.

Checking the Engine Oil Level

Regularly checking the engine oil level is essential to ensure your motorcycle operates efficiently. Follow these steps:

1. Place the motorcycle on the center stand.
2. Start the engine and let it run for three minutes.
3. Stop the engine and wait three minutes.
4. Hold the motorcycle vertically and inspect the oil level using the dipstick. The oil level should be between the "L" (Low) and "F" (Full) lines.

Note: Do not screw in the oil filler cap when checking the oil level.

Caution:

• Hot Oil: Wait until the engine and oil are cool before checking or changing the oil to avoid burns.
• Oil Level: Ensure the oil level is always above the "L" line and not above the "F" line. Operating with too little or too much oil can damage the engine.

Engine Oil Change and Oil Strainer Cleaning

Changing the engine oil at the scheduled intervals ensures the engine remains well-lubricated and runs smoothly. Here’s how to do it:

1. Warm up the Engine: This helps the oil to drain completely.
2. Place the motorcycle on the center stand.
3. Remove the oil filler cap (1) to allow air to enter as the oil drains.
   
   
   
   
   
4. Position a drain pan under the drain plug.
5. Remove the drain plug(2) and “O” ring(3) and let the oil drain out completely.
   
   
   
   
   
6. Remove and clean the oil strainer using compressed air. Replace it if necessary.
   
   
   
   
   
7. Reinstall the strainer, plug, and drain plug, replacing the "O" ring if needed. Tighten the drain plug to 35 N·m (3.6 kgf-m, 26.0 lbf-ft).
8. Refill with fresh oil. The Avenis 125 requires approximately 650 ml of oil.
9. Tighten the oil filler cap and start the engine. Allow it to idle for three minutes.
10. Check for leaks and recheck the oil level after the engine has been turned off for a few minutes.

Proper disposal: Always recycle or dispose of used oil properly.
